Hydrogen PSA

ON2Quest’s hydrogen purification systems are equipped with the latest advancements in pressure swing adsorption (PSA) technology related to the adsorbent materials and application of a rotating manifold instead of traditional switching valves.

These systems are meticulously designed to effectively enhance hydrogen-containing gas streams to achieve pure and ultra-pure hydrogen. The most common applications are the upgrading of synthesis gas or waste gas streams to pure hydrogen. There are three variations available, each specifically designed for different pressures and feed flow volumes between 15 Nm3/h and 15,000 Nm3/h.

The Technology

The basic principal of the PSA systems is that certain gas molecules adsorb to different adsorbent materials at elevated pressure while hydrogen flows through unaffected. As soon as the pressure is reduced, these adsorbed molecules will be released again.

ON2Quest’s PSA systems are based on multiple vessels of which, some are in adsorption mode and others are in regeneration mode. By cycling between these modes, a steady stream of pure or ultra pure hydrogen is created.

Instead of using traditional gate valves, a rotating manifold is used. This reduces the system’s footprint and increases the purification efficiency. An additional benefit of using a rotating manifold is that the pressure gradually increases during a switching cycle, minimising the impact on the adsorbent materials. This enables the use of a broader range of more effective materials and reducing maintenance expenses as well as associated downtime.
