About
TUBITAK MAM develops knowledge and technology for the benefit of society through research and development activities and consists of experts dedicated to developing technologies aimed at improving environmental factors related to air, noise and water pollution. MAM has extensive experience in urban-level noise and air quality modelling, developing local strategies for reducing noise and air pollution, water/wastewater management in line with SDG goals and zero pollution targets.
Specific skills of the research group;
• Researchers experienced over 15 years on the field of all over in Türkiye,
• Accredited and well-equipped laboratory infrastructure,
• Invaluable experience in laboratory and pilot scale applications,
• Multidisciplinary approach within MAM which has expertise in various research areas (e.g., energy, material, biotechnology),
• Valuable, updated and comprehensive datasets about water, air and noise pollution of Türkiye,
• Experience in developing hybrid treatment technologies for removal of pollutants, reuse of water and recovery of valuable materials,
• Experience on nature-based solutions (wetlands, rainwater harvesting, Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems-SUDS etc.,
• Experience in grey and black water treatment and reuse of water,
• Experience in developing air and water quality monitoring sensors and observing systems such as for water quality Dissolved Oxygen, pH, Electrical Conductivity (TRL values are between 5-9) and particulate matter, O3, NO2 (TRL 7) for the air quality.
• Knowledge and experience on integrated data management by using GIS based decision support systems.
• Researchers having knowledge on environmental legislation of both the European Union and Türkiye and also particular regional agreements such as Barcelona and BlackSea Convention,
• Development of local/cooperate climate, clean air or noise action plans (Metropolitans and airports in Türkiye)
• Air quality management, in-situ observations of air pollution, dispersion (AERMOD, CALPUFF), data assimilation and regional atmospheric modelling (WRF CHEM)
• Preparation of strategic noise maps for developing a noise simulation model for agglomeration and determination of the number of sensitive buildings (dwellings, schools, hospitals) and the number of people exposed to environmental noise sourced by airport, highway, railway, industry and entertainment facilities
• The technical infrastructure to determine the sound absorption qualities for noise barriers and road paving materials and to determine the most suitable materials in terms of noise reduction.
