About
Training the next generation of EOSC-ready data professionals
Advanced, hands-on education deliverhttps://www.sissa.it/ed in the heart of Trieste’s renowned scientific ecosystem in Italy.
In today’s data-driven world, the ability to manage, curate, and responsibly leverage data is paramount.
Both scientific research and industry increasingly require professionals capable of making data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR).
At the same time, in an AI-driven landscape, robust data management practices are essential to ensure trustworthy, transparent, and reliable algorithms — making FAIR data a cornerstone not only of Open Science, but also of responsible AI.
The Master in Data Management and Curation (MDMC) is a professional, full-time academic programme designed to address this need by training EOSC-ready data professionals with strong technical, methodological, and cultural foundations.
MDMC aligns with the principles and objectives promoted by EOSC Association, contributing to the development of the human infrastructure required for Open Science to thrive.
It is a unique joint initiative by Area Science Park and SISSA, designed to equip students with advanced, practice-oriented skills grounded in real research and data ecosystems.
MDMC prepares participants to operate as skilled data professionals, while offering the flexibility to position themselves as:
-
Data Steward
-
Research Data Manager
-
Data Engineer
-
Data professional within research infrastructures, universities, or other data-intensive organisations
Graduates are equipped to work at the intersection of research, data governance, and technology, supporting FAIR-by-design practices across the entire research data lifecycle and contributing effectively to EOSC-enabled environments.
