Area Science Park has been a member of the EOSC Association since 2020 and recently became a partner of the Italian EOSC Node, wishing to contribute to the federated development of FAIR data services, interoperability and EOSC-enabled infrastructures at national and European level.
Area Science Park promotes an integrated innovation ecosystem in which research and technological infrastructures are tightly connected through FAIR-by-design data management.
By treating data as a shared strategic asset, Area enables interoperability, reuse and responsible AI across scientific and technological domains, supporting both Open Science and innovation within the EOSC framework.
Laboratory of Data Engineering (LADE) – Research-driven data engineering for FAIR and AI-enabled science
The Laboratory of Data Engineering (LADE) at Area Science Park is a research-oriented laboratory dedicated to the design, development and validation of advanced data engineering solutions for scientific research and innovation.
LADE operates at the intersection of data management, FAIR-by-design methodologies, artificial intelligence and research infrastructures, supporting data-intensive science across multiple domains.
The laboratory’s research lines focus on:

FAIR data architectures and workflows, including metadata models, persistent identifiers, provenance tracking and interoperability mechanisms aligned with EOSC principles;

Data lifecycle engineering, from acquisition and quality control to long-term preservation and reuse in federated environments;

AI-ready data and trustworthy AI, addressing data curation, bias mitigation, reproducibility and explainability as prerequisites for reliable AI-for-Science applications;

Semantic interoperability and knowledge representation, leveraging ontologies and controlled vocabularies to enable cross-domain data integration;

Integration of experimental data with digital platforms, HPC and AI infrastructures, supporting scalable analytics, modelling and digital twin approaches.
Through these research activities, LADE contributes to building robust, interoperable and reusable data ecosystems, strengthening the connection between research infrastructures, technological platforms and the European Open Science Cloud.
