Innovative Grid-Integrated & Digitally Monitored Micro Hydropower Systems

This proposed partnership aims to develop and pilot innovative technical and digital solutions to modernize micro and mini hydropower systems in Nepal. NAMHUS will participate as a technical and implementation partner, providing field expertise, sector coordination, and policy alignment support.

The innovation focus includes:

• Advanced grid integration models for micro-hydro plants, including smart synchronization, adaptive protection systems, and hybrid grid–mini-grid configurations.

• Digital real-time monitoring platforms integrating IoT-based sensors, remote diagnostics, and predictive maintenance tools to enhance system reliability and data-driven decision-making.

• AI-supported fault localization and performance optimization within rural distribution networks to reduce technical losses and downtime.

• Innovative sustainability frameworks, combining load optimization (e.g., electric cooking integration), demand stimulation, and productive end-use electrification to improve financial viability.

• Replicable modernization models for rehabilitation and upgrading of aging micro-hydro systems.

  NAMHUS will facilitate pilot demonstrations in Nepal, support local technical validation, contribute sectoral data, and ensure regulatory and community integration. We seek a lead partner specializing in advanced power systems, digital energy solutions, or applied research to co-develop scalable, low-carbon and resilient energy models for rural contexts.
