About
The problem Regulators and institutions increasingly require provable data deletion — GDPR's "right to be forgotten," archival retention limits, court-ordered destruction of evidence. On conventional digital media, deletion cannot be independently verified: data can be copied, backed up, or recovered before or after a claimed deletion event.
Our approach We are developing an optical storage matrix based on femtosecond laser inscription of data structures directly into fused silica rods, read via distributed optical sensing methods. Because data exists as a physical structure in the material itself, its destruction is physically verifiable and irreversible at the module level — not a database flag, but a material fact.
Fit with Rule of Law priority The project addresses institutional trust and legal accountability infrastructure: giving archives, courts, and financial/medical regulators a technically and legally defensible answer to data lifecycle and deletion-compliance requirements.

What we're looking for A research organisation in a Donor State (Norway, Iceland, or Liechtenstein) with expertise in one or more of:

Fibre or distributed optical sensing (e.g. φ-OTDR)

for joint experimental development under a POLNORIS Donor partnership project (36 months, industrial research / experimental development scope).
