Lignin Valorisation or LOHC Hydrogen Storage for POLNORIS

Ekspert at ORLEN Capital Group

Warszawa, Poland

About

ORLEN is seeking research partners from Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein for joint R&D projects under the POLNORIS programme.

ORLEN is one of the largest multi-energy companies in Central Europe with extensive experience in developing and implementing innovative technologies in the refining, petrochemical, energy and renewable sectors.

Our current R&D interests focus on two key areas:

1. Valorisation of lignin and waste biomass

We are interested in developing innovative pathways for the conversion of lignin from 2G ethanol production and other waste biomass streams into high-value products. Particular areas of interest include thermochemical conversion technologies such as pyrolysis, hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) and related catalytic processes leading to high-value petrochemical products or BTX aromatics.

2. Hydrogen storage and transport

We are interested in technologies enabling efficient hydrogen storage and distribution, with particular focus on Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carriers (LOHC) and innovative concepts integrating hydrogen value chains with existing petrochemical infrastructure.

ORLEN offers strong industrial implementation capabilities through its Research and Development Centre, including pilot-scale facilities for hydrodesulfurisation (HDS), hydrodeoxygenation (HDO), catalytic cracking and reforming, as well as advanced analytical laboratories supporting technology validation, scale-up and industrial deployment.

We are looking for research organisations with expertise in biomass conversion, pyrolysis, HTL, catalysis, fuel and petrochemical processing, hydrogen technologies and process scale-up. We welcome partners interested in translating scientific excellence into industrially relevant solutions with commercialisation potential.
