PORTABLE

PORTABLE aims to design and implement a mobile and modular micro-biorefinery capable of collecting, stabilizing, and valorizing agro-industrial by-products directly at their source — whether in isolated factories or on farms. The project addresses key barriers in the agri-food circular economy such as seasonal waste generation, high transport costs, and lack of decentralized processing infrastructure. By bringing transformation processes closer to biomass origin, PORTABLE enables local valorization, reduces emissions, and creates new business opportunities for rural industries.
The initiative requires a multidisciplinary consortium including engineering and technology developers (for design and integration of the mobile system), technological centers and universities (for process validation and sustainability assessment), agri-food and biotech companies (as end users of bio-based ingredients), agricultural cooperatives (providing biomass and test sites), European strategic partners (for replication under the ECIV framework), and experts in business modeling and digitalization to ensure scalability and traceability across regions
