About

What we offer

The Sonnenplatz Großschönau GmbH together with Reallabor 100% EE Waldviertel (Lower Austria) operates a nationally funded living laboratory for 100% renewable energy supply. At its core is a real-time Energy Management System (EMS) that monitors and controls a multi-energy infrastructure across multiple geographically distributed test sites, combining for example:

  • all types and kinds of PV, biomass district heating, CHP, heat rods for optimised summer usage, bidirectional + unidirectional EV chargers, small and large battery storage, heat pumps and further controllable loads.

The EMS integrates electricity, heat, and mobility data in near-real time, enabling cross-sector analysis, forecasting, and control. Live operational data is continuously generated and structured for research use.

What we are looking for

We are seeking project partners for collaborative research and demonstration in the context of Positive Energy Districts, urban-rural energy transitions, and multi-energy system optimisation. We are particularly interested in partners who contribute expertise in:

  • Digital twins and urban data modelling

  • AI-based forecasting and control algorithms

  • Sector coupling and cross-vector energy optimisation

  • Social and governance dimensions of PED transitions

  • Replication of rural/regional PED approaches

Why cooperate with us?

Sonnenplatz Großschönau together with Reallabor 100% EE Waldviertel has a fully operational, FFG-funded research infrastructure and are actively building an open data platform. We have coordinated already successful international PED-projects (INTERACT, simply positive) and are coordinator and a Living Lab in the DUT emPEDded proposal of the 2025 Call.
