About
Sonnenplatz Großschönau is an Austrian competence center and demonstration site for sustainable energy solutions, awareness raising and innovation. Since 2005, the organization has been developing and managing international and national research projects with a strong focus on energy efficiency, renewable energy, sustainable building, and regional innovation strategies.
Through a unique combination of real-life demonstration (such as the SONNENWELT experience center and pilot buildings) and applied research, Sonnenplatz creates bridges between citizens, municipalities, and industry. The focus lies on making sustainable lifestyles tangible, empowering local communities, and testing solutions that can be scaled to Positive Energy Districts (PEDs).
The organization contributes to European projects in the fields of energy transition, living labs, and citizen engagement, supporting municipalities and regions in achieving climate neutrality. Its expertise includes awareness raising, stakeholder engagement, energy efficiency in buildings, integration of renewables, and cross-border cooperation.
