About

The Institute for Climate Protection, Energy and Mobility (IKEM) is a non-profit, interdisciplinary research institute based in Berlin, Germany. Founded in 2009 and affiliated with the University of Greifswald, IKEM focuses on the legal, economic, and political dimensions of the transition to a sustainable society. Its work spans a wide range of topics related to climate protection, renewable energy, and sustainable mobility, with a particular emphasis on policy design and regulatory frameworks.

IKEM collaborates with national and international partners across academia, government, civil society, and industry to conduct applied research that informs policy and supports innovation. The institute plays a key role in shaping climate and energy policy in Germany and Europe, contributing to major research projects and advising decision-makers on effective strategies for decarbonization and system transformation.

In recognition of its impact, IKEM has held Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) since 2017. Through its research, publications, and public engagement, IKEM aims to accelerate the implementation of the Paris Agreement, the European Green Deal, and other key climate objectives.
