Evaluation & Transfer of Best Practices

Martin Wittau

President at Bundesvereinigung Nachhaltigkeit e.V.

Berlin, Germany

About

BVNG combines practical experience with academic and SME partnerships to ensure that urban transition projects are not one-off pilots but can be evaluated, documented, and scaled into replicable best practices.

We place strong emphasis on monitoring and evaluation (M&E) that goes beyond compliance, focusing instead on capturing learning outcomes, systemic impacts, and transferable methods. By connecting scientific expertise with hands-on SME and municipal experience, we help partners to measure what works and translate it into practical guidelines for others.

Our evaluation work also supports capacity building: we feed results back into training curricula, SME consulting, and citizen engagement methodologies, ensuring that every project strengthens skills and local capacity for future initiatives.

Within DUT projects, BVNG can contribute by:

  • Evaluation frameworks for urban sustainability pilots.

  • Documentation of results in accessible, practice-oriented formats.

  • Platforms for knowledge transfer and peer learning across cities and regions.

  • Expertise in embedding results into VET and SME support programs.
