Urban Permaculture & Green Infrastructure

The German Federal Association for Sustainability (BVNG) offers expertise in turning underused or neglected urban areas — such as courtyards, vacant lots, and transitional spaces — into vibrant permaculture-based green and social infrastructure. These projects create ecological, social, and educational value simultaneously.

Our approach integrates urban biodiversity, food production, water management, and climate resilience with citizen participation and vocational education. By involving residents, SMEs, and local administrations, we ensure that such spaces are not only green interventions but also living laboratories for sustainable urban transition.

We have practical experience in co-designing and implementing permaculture gardens in dense urban environments and linking them with educational programs for apprentices and young professionals. These projects directly contribute to resilience by improving microclimates, reducing heat stress, supporting pollinators, and providing recreational and learning opportunities for communities.

Within DUT partnerships, BVNG can contribute:
