The Moliceiro Culture: The Cultural Ecosystem of Ria de Aveiro
Full Professor at Centre for Intercultural Studies, Porto Polytechnic University
About
A population that paints their boats and launches them into the waters of a lagoon creates an album of images that expresses their vision of the world.
These artistic practices voice the concerns of the community, identify those they hold responsible, and point out possible solutions.
Why should we listen to them? Which practices from the past do we want to take into a sustainable future?
Objectives: 1, Map what is being lost and – hopefully – recovered; 2. Find solutions based upon creativity and cocreation for the protection of both rural and urban cultural ecosystems; 3. Explore methods that can be applied to other ignored/silenced communities facing climate change and unsustainable practices; 4. Resist through site-specific actions; 5. Stare and listen to ‘undisciplined’ art forms by actual societal actors; 6. Build a future-proof and climate-resilient Digital Cultural Heritage.
This project intends to establish a method that can be replicated in other ignored or silenced artistic practices with an ecological concern by local communities in other territories facing similar threats.
