About
The project promotes sustainable and circular aquaculture by developing a controlled macroalgae cultivation system aimed at reducing environmental impacts associated with algal die-off and decomposition. Through the installation of a pilot facility using native algal species, the initiative will monitor biomass growth, water quality, and key biological parameters to assess how macroalgae cultivation can effectively remove excess nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Expected impacts include gradual improvements in local water quality, reduced uncontrolled algal proliferation, and enhanced biodiversity resulting from a rebalanced nutrient environment. As the system operates in an open natural setting, challenges may arise in identifying the most suitable cultivation method for the specific area; these will be addressed by testing multiple cultivation approaches and evaluating their environmental and ecosystem performance.
