Microalgae-Based Waste-to-Value Photobioreactor Systems for Circular Bioeconomy
R & D Director - CEO at Sylvalgae Srl
Reggio Emilia, Italy
About
SYLVALGAE Srl develops and supplies modular photobioreactor systems for the conversion of organic waste streams into high-value microalgal biomass within a circular bioeconomy framework.
SYLVALGAE technology enables controlled microalgae cultivation using waste-derived nutrient sources, including organic effluents and nutrient-rich polluted marine and coastal waters. This supports phytoplankton-based production of high-value metabolites while reducing production costs and contributing to aquatic ecosystem remediation.
The system enables scalable biomass production for biofertilizers, animal and aquaculture feed, pharmaceuticals, biofuels, and biohydrogen. It is adaptable from pilot to industrial scale and compatible with wastewater treatment systems and coastal water management applications.
SYLVALGAE holds four granted patents in microalgae-based waste valorization and bioreactor technologies.
Key advantages:
-
Conversion of organic waste into valuable biomass
-
High-efficiency microalgae cultivation under controlled conditions
-
Reduced production cost via waste-based growth media
-
Support for marine, coastal and wastewater bioremediation
-
Modular and scalable system design
-
Integration with industrial and environmental infrastructures
-
Alignment with circular economy and decarbonization strategies
