Our expertise in Microbial Biologics
We work with microbial expression systems, including Escherichia coli, Pichia pastoris, Saccharomyces cerevisiae and other fungal strains. Our particular strengths include non-glycosylated and difficult-to-express recombinant proteins, where expression performance, protein folding, solubility, aggregation and purification can present significant development challenges.
Our experience covers a range of recombinant protein formats, including:

From expression development to scale-up
Our capabilities span upstream and downstream process development, supporting key stages of recombinant protein production:

· Protein folding and recovery: Folding and refolding strategies, solubility improvement, aggregation control and recovery optimisation.
· Purification and downstream processing: Development and optimisation of purification processes to support protein quality and recovery.
· Analytical characterisation: Protein characterisation, quality assessment and comparability studies.
· Process optimisation and scale-up: Process refinement and scale-up support, with fermentation capacities of 20 L, 150 L and 750 L.
How Paras can contribute to Horizon Europe projects
We aim to help project teams address recombinant protein production challenges through focused technical contributions to research and development work packages. Depending on project requirements, our role could include expression optimisation, improving protein solubility and recovery, developing purification processes, analytical characterisation, troubleshooting and fermentation scale-up.
Our capabilities may be relevant to projects developing therapeutic proteins, antibody-based biologics and other recombinant protein products where microbial expression is scientifically appropriate. We are particularly interested in projects that require specialist expertise in microbial production, difficult-to-express proteins, protein quality or process development.
