Federated learning & trustworthy-AI evaluation partner for health AI projects
Professor of Computational Medical Imaging Research at Albarqouni Lab. @ University Hospital Bonn | University of Bonn

About
The Albarqouni Lab (University Hospital Bonn / University of Bonn, Germany) offers to join Horizon Europe Cluster 1 Health, Cancer Mission and IHI consortia whose projects use clinical or imaging data across several sites.
What we bring:
-
Federated learning and privacy-preserving analytics. Train and validate AI models across hospitals without moving patient data, aligned with the European Health Data Space. We are scientific lead of Germany’s Open Medical Inference (OMI) network across 16 university-hospital sites.
-
Medical imaging AI. Segmentation, detection and quantitative imaging biomarkers for MRI, CT, X-ray, ultrasound, digital pathology and ophthalmology, including foundation and vision–language models.
-
Trustworthy-AI evaluation. Multi-centre external validation, robustness to scanner and site shifts, uncertainty, fairness and bias audits, and documentation for the EU AI Act. We co-authored the international FUTURE-AI guideline (BMJ 2025).
-
Affordable AI for point-of-care and low-resource settings, plus training and capacity building for clinical and technical staff.
Typical roles: work-package or task leader for AI and federated learning, technical partner for data integration and model development, or independent evaluation partner.
Looking for: coordinators and clinical consortia that need an AI, federated-data or evaluation partner, including projects in neurology, oncology, cardiovascular and musculoskeletal disease, and global health.
