Medical Humanities, Bioethics & Human-Centred Health Innovation
Research Profile
The Department of History of Medicine and Ethics at Yeditepe University Faculty of Medicine, Türkiye, contributes interdisciplinary expertise in bioethics, the history of medicine, medical humanities, health policy, and responsible innovation. Our work connects ethical reflection with clinical and technological advances, human well-being, and the social and cultural dimensions of health.
Research Expertise and Interdisciplinary Capabilities
-
Bioethics and medical humanities: Medical ethics, history of medicine, medical law and health policy, with emphasis on human dignity, autonomy, informed consent, professional responsibility, and research ethics.
-
Digital health and AI ethics: Ethical evaluation of AI-enabled healthcare, data privacy and governance, fairness, transparency, accountability, patient autonomy, and human-centred technology development.
-
Healthcare professionals' well-being and lifestyle medicine ethics: Ethical dimensions of preventive healthcare, healthy ageing, occupational vulnerability, professional resilience, health equity, and equitable access to lifestyle interventions.
-
Aerospace and aviation medicine ethics: Ethical questions in high-risk environments, including AI-assisted health monitoring, informed consent, biological and voice data, and human–technology interactions affecting pilots and aerospace personnel.
-
Medicine, art and well-being: Interdisciplinary collaborations through the Oxytocin Medicine and Art Platform, founded in 2019 by Prof. Dr. E. Elif Vatanoğlu-Lutz, connecting medicine, arts, empathy, social connectedness, and well-being. Interests include arts-based research, public engagement, and ethical questions surrounding voice, identity, and professional expression.
Potential Contributions to Horizon Europe Consortia
Our department can contribute to:
-
Ethical analysis and ethics-by-design approaches in clinical and technology-driven research
-
Research ethics, informed consent, patient autonomy, and responsible data governance
-
Human-centred AI frameworks, ethical risk assessment, fairness, and accountability
-
Ethical and societal perspectives on healthcare professionals' well-being and lifestyle medicine
-
Stakeholder engagement, interdisciplinary dialogue, and arts-based approaches to health and well-being
-
Conceptual frameworks, policy recommendations, responsible research and innovation, and societal impact
These contributions can complement consortia working on inclusive and person-centred healthcare, digital innovation, disability and independent living, AI-supported clinical decision-making, and the relationship between culture, health, and society.
Collaboration Sought
We seek to join coordinator-led Horizon Europe consortia as a research partner, offering expertise in bioethics, medical humanities, responsible health innovation, and interdisciplinary approaches to well-being.
We welcome partnerships with universities, hospitals, clinical and public health researchers, social scientists, technology developers, patient organisations, and cultural and creative sector partners seeking to integrate ethical, human-centred, and societal perspectives into research.
