About
IBIMA Plataforma BIONAND is a multidisciplinary biomedical research institute centred around the three main university hospitals in Málaga —Regional University Hospital of Málaga, Virgen de la Victoria University Hospital and Costa del Sol University Hospital— together with Primary Care Units of the Andalusian Public Health System and research groups from the University of Málaga.
IBIMA promotes excellence in biomedical and translational research, fostering the transfer of scientific results into clinical practice and contributing to improved prevention, diagnosis and treatment of prevalent health conditions at regional, national and international levels.
In 2022, the Andalusian Centre for Nanomedicine and Biotechnology (BIONAND) was integrated into IBIMA, strengthening the Institute’s capabilities in nanomedicine, advanced technologies and translational research. IBIMA is also part of relevant European research infrastructures, including EATRIS and ECRIN.
In 2025, IBIMA renewed its accreditation as a Health Research Institute for a further five years and incorporated Costa del Sol University Hospital into its institutional structure.
IBIMA currently brings together 91 research groups, covering biomedical, clinical, technological and nanomedicine research.
