Processing and characterisation of porous biomaterials for health applications

Associate Professor at Loughborough University, UK

Loughborough, United Kingdom

About

My group at Loughborough University can design, produce and fully characterise porous materials, linking processing conditions to structure, properties and biological performance. I can contribute:

  • Fabrication of porous structures using electrospinning and other polymer processing methods, with control over fibre diameter, pore size, porosity and interconnectivity

  • Natural and synthetic polymer formulations, including biopolymers such as alginate, silk and cellulose, and composite systems loaded with bioactive agents

  • Structural and physical characterisation, including microscopy, porosity and pore-size analysis, surface wettability and mechanical testing

  • Functional performance testing, including degradation behaviour, swelling, and drug or bioactive release profiles

These capabilities support projects in tissue engineering, wound healing, drug delivery and medical devices. I welcome contact from clinical, academic and industry partners who need a materials partner for scaffold design, process optimisation, or characterisation work packages.
