Clinical cardiovascular and cardiorenal phenotyping for AI-based predictive biomarkers

Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at Università degli Studi di Ferrara

Ferrara, Italy

About

Our clinical research unit, based at the University Hospital of Ferrara and academically affiliated with the University of Ferrara (Italy), is interested in joining European consortia developing and validating AI-based predictive biomarkers for chronic non-communicable diseases.

Our expertise focuses on arterial hypertension, 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM), cardiovascular prevention, hypertension-mediated cardiac, vascular and renal organ damage, and cardiovascular and cardiorenal risk stratification.

We have particular research interests in hypertension in women, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, postpartum cardiovascular surveillance, and the long-term cardiovascular and renal consequences of pre-eclampsia and gestational hypertension.

Expertise offered

  • Clinical cardiovascular and cardiorenal phenotyping.

  • ABPM, nocturnal hypertension and blood pressure variability.

  • Assessment of hypertension-mediated organ damage.

  • Clinical interpretation of laboratory, cardiovascular imaging and physiological biomarkers.

  • Definition of clinically relevant endpoints and disease progression trajectories.

  • Clinical validation of AI-based risk prediction models.

  • Sex- and gender-sensitive cardiovascular research.

  • Clinical epidemiology and multicentre study design.

Potential research applications

Multimodal prediction of cardiovascular and renal disease progression in hypertension, identification of patients at increased risk of hypertension-mediated organ damage, and long-term cardiovascular risk stratification following hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.

Partners sought

European research consortia, AI and machine-learning groups, cardiovascular and nephrology researchers, biostatisticians, imaging specialists, and institutions with established longitudinal clinical datasets.

Proposed role

Clinical phenotyping, cardiovascular/cardiorenal expertise, study design and clinical validation partner within a multidisciplinary Horizon Europe consortium.

Topic

  • Destination 5: HORIZON-HLTH-2027-02-TOOL-01-two-stage: Development of predictive biomarkers of disease progression and treatment response by using AI methodologies for chronic non-communicable diseases
