About

IBIMA is a multidisciplinary research space dedicated to biomedicine and nanomedicine, centered around the Regional and Virgen de la Victoria University Hospitals in Málaga. It collaborates with Primary Care, the biotechnological groups of the University of Málaga, and the Andalusian Centre for Nanomedicine and Biotechnology (BIONAND). Its main objective is to promote excellence in research, with a strong focus on translational research, ensuring that scientific findings can be transferred to clinical practice, biotechnology, and applied solutions. IBIMA fosters a multidisciplinary research environment that strengthens the scientific foundations of healthcare programs and policies within the National Health System. It prioritizes translational research at the biomolecular, clinical, epidemiological, and technological levels, facilitating the transfer of scientific advances in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of prevalent health conditions at regional, national, and international levels. IBIMA integrates more than 90 research groups from the University of Málaga and the Public Health System. Its research areas include:

• Cardiovascular diseases, obesity, and diabetes: environmental determinants and lifestyle

• Oncology and hematology

• Neurosciences, chronic diseases, aging, and health in vulnerable populations

• Autoimmune, infectious, inflammatory, and allergic diseases

• Nanodiagnostics • Nanosystems and advanced therapies
