Kinesis Innovation Center (KIC) is a pan-European research and innovation hub advancing physical activity, healthy ageing, and digital health. Established as a post-Action Sustainability Initiative of COST Action CA20104: PhysAgeNet and the Greek Scientists Society, KIC builds on a strong scientific foundation and a broad multidisciplinary network.
The Center was founded by leading experts in ageing, movement science, digital health, and AI:
• Prof. George Chrousos – Academy of Athens; President, Pasteur Institute; Professor Emeritus, NKUA Medical School; UNESCO Chair; among the 250 most-cited clinicians.
• Prof. Michael Brach – University of Münster; Chair of COST Action CA20104 PhysAgeNet Network on evidence-based physical activity in old age; Board member - (EGRAPA) European Group for Research on Aging and Physical Activity
• Prof. Patrick Esser – Oxford University; Director of the Centre for Movement, Occupation and Rehabilitation Sciences (MOReS) Oxford Brookes University.
• Theo Zacharis – •Innovation & Strategy Advisor – bioGLOT Ventures, Cambridge, UK; Founder of the Greek Scientists Society (>33,000 members), specialising in EU R&I networking, science diplomacy, and health innovation ecosystems.
Areas of Expertise
• Physical activity, healthy ageing & longevity research
• Digital health, wearables, digital biomarkers, behavioural analytics
• AI for health: domain-specific SLMs, HPC-AI, FAIR data & EHDS alignment
• Clinical studies, real-world testbeds, and federated data infrastructures
• Living labs for ageing, mobility, prevention & rehabilitation
• Science-policy interface, stakeholder engagement & health governance
• Innovation management and industry–academia partnerships • Digital health data models, clinical metadata standards & secure federated architectures. (EHDS, EOSC/FAIR, ACT-EU, DARWIN EU, ECRIN)
Background & Focus
KIC operates as a cross-sector platform supporting EU-funded research, providing expertise across Horizon Europe (Health, Digital, Research Infrastructures, Cancer, Mission on Adaptation, Cluster 1 & Cluster 4), EU4Health, EuroHPC, COST Actions, and EIT programs.
Our work spans digital biobanking, clinical and behavioural research, longitudinal and real-world studies, AI-enabled analytics, and policy consultation. We facilitate consortium building, scientific coordination, FAIR/EHDS compliance, and high-impact dissemination.
KIC aims to accelerate innovation by connecting researchers, industry, policy actors, and civil society across Europe to co-develop evidence-based interventions that improve mobility, prevention, and healthy ageing trajectories.
