About
Project Concept
The project aims to design and validate 3D printed, patient-specific bone-regenerative implants manufactured directly within hospital and clinic-based 3D printing units. By moving production to the point of care, the project addresses several key environmental and healthcare challenges:
-
Reduced carbon footprint by eliminating centralized manufacturing and logistics
-
Use of carbon-neutral biomaterials
-
Fewer secondary surgeries through improved implant integration and regeneration
-
Faster clinical response and improved healthcare system resilience
-
Democratization of access to regenerative implant technologies, including dentistry
Applications may include orthopedics, maxillofacial surgery, trauma and dental regeneration, with a strong focus on real-world clinical workflows.
COLFEED is a biomaterial producer for FDM 3D printing, with patented, functionalized and easy-to-print feedstocks already validated in hospital-based point-of-care manufacturing environments. COLFEED contributes:
-
Carbon-neutral, regenerative biomaterials
-
Printability-focused material design for clinical settings
-
Experience integrating materials into existing hospital 3D printing units
-
Know-how in scalability, sustainability and clinical translation
Partners may contribute to clinical validation, manufacturing systems, sustainability assessment, regulatory pathways or healthcare deployment models.
