About
Professor Sayoki G. Mfinanga is an established expert in the design and implementation of clinical trials and epidemiological studies, with over two decades of experience leading high-impact research in TB, HIV, NCDs, and vaccine development. He has designed, coordinated, and supervised numerous Phase II–III randomized controlled trials, multi-country implementation studies, and large-scale epidemiological surveys across Africa—including trials such as REMSTART, ACTA, META, INTE-AFRICA, DREAMM, and OPTIC-TB.
His expertise spans trial methodology, protocol development, patient safety oversight, data management systems, biostatistics, operational research, and mixed-methods epidemiology. He has contributed to national and WHO guidelines through evidence generated from these studies, demonstrating his ability to translate trial results into policy. Prof. Mfinanga also teaches “Designing and Conducting Clinical Trials,” supervises PhD and MSc students in epidemiology, and builds research capacity across Africa.
