Start-Up

United Kingdom

SIMULEX is a Scotland-based clean energy technology start-up developing advanced modelling, simulation and decision-support capabilities for integrated multi-energy systems. Our core platform, NZEMS, is being designed to support the analysis of complex interactions between hydrogen, CCS and CCU, geothermal systems, renewable energy, storage technologies, heating and cooling, industrial energy systems, buildings, transport infrastructure and subsurface resources. SIMULEX helps partners evaluate clean-energy pathways before major technical, financial, policy or infrastructure decisions are made. Our work combines reservoir engineering, reservoir simulation, chemical engineering, thermodynamics, phase behaviour, subsurface energy systems, numerical modelling and integrated energy-system analysis. We are particularly focused on hydrogen and renewable fuels, geological CO₂ storage, CO₂ utilisation, geothermal energy, underground hydrogen storage, industrial decarbonisation, integrated regional and local energy systems, heating and cooling technologies, and net-zero infrastructure planning. SIMULEX aims to contribute rigorous modelling frameworks, independent technical intelligence and practical decision-support tools to collaborative research, innovation and demonstration projects with universities, research organisations, public institutions, industrial clusters, technology developers and energy companies.

About me

I am co-founder of SIMULEX and co-creator of NZEMS, an integrated modelling and decision-support platform for complex clean-energy and multi-energy systems.

My background combines Chemical Engineering, Reservoir Engineering, advanced reservoir simulation, thermodynamics, phase behaviour, thermal recovery, and subsurface energy systems. I am particularly focused on applying this experience to the New Energies sector, including hydrogen, carbon geological storage, geothermal energy, wind integration, CO₂ enhanced oil recovery, underground hydrogen storage, and integrated multi-energy infrastructure.

At Schlumberger’s Abingdon Technology Centre, where ECLIPSE, INTERSECT/IX, and Petrel reservoir technologies are developed and maintained, I served as a Subject Matter Expert Reservoir Engineer within the reservoir simulators team.

My role focused on the technical and commercial validation of legacy and new simulator workflows, capabilities, and reservoir engineering applications for global reservoir engineering clients. This required specialist-level knowledge of reservoir engineering, reservoir simulation, numerical modelling, field-development workflows, Chemical EOR, and the practical behaviour of benchmark reservoir simulators used worldwide.

My research and technical experience also include thermal cracking modelling and characterisation of heavy oil at Heriot-Watt University, as well as thermodynamics and phase behaviour of complex reservoir fluids through work with TOTAL CSJFT and ECOPETRO-ICP.

I am a member of EPSRC’s Peer Review College, a World Geothermal Congress peer reviewer, and a member of SPE and IChemE.

Through SIMULEX, I am interested in building trusted partnerships with universities, research organisations, public institutions, and energy companies working on the practical delivery of the clean energy transition.
