Hydrogen Heavy-Duty Freight Demonstrator

About

PTL is an established Greek road freight and logistics operator with extensive experience in commercial heavy-duty transport, including temperature-controlled logistics, fleet telematics and operational monitoring.

PTL is currently seeking partners to jointly develop a proposal under CETPartnership Joint Call 2026 – CM2026-05 Hydrogen and Renewable Fuel, focused on the demonstration and validation of renewable hydrogen solutions for heavy-duty freight transport under real commercial operating conditions.

The proposed concept, H2FREIGHT-360, aims to integrate renewable hydrogen supply, hydrogen-powered heavy-duty vehicle technology, refuelling infrastructure, fleet telematics, operational optimisation, safety assessment, life-cycle analysis and Total Cost of Ownership validation.

PTL can participate as the industrial end-user, fleet operator, pilot site and demonstration partner, providing:

  • real commercial heavy-duty freight operations;

  • international and regional transport routes;

  • temperature-controlled freight use cases;

  • fleet, route, mileage and operational data;

  • telematics and fuel/energy consumption data;

  • drivers and fleet-management personnel;

  • definition of end-user and operational requirements;

  • real-world validation of vehicle range, payload, refuelling time, vehicle availability and energy consumption;

  • TCO and business-case assessment;

  • comparison with existing conventional operations;

  • replication and commercial fleet scale-up planning.

The concept is particularly interested in addressing demanding long-haul and refrigerated freight duty cycles, where vehicle utilisation, payload, range, refuelling and auxiliary refrigeration-energy requirements represent major challenges for zero-emission deployment.

PTL is currently looking for:

  • an experienced R&I organisation willing to coordinate or co-develop the proposal;

  • hydrogen and fuel-cell technology providers;

  • heavy-duty vehicle OEMs or powertrain integrators;

  • renewable hydrogen producers and suppliers;

  • hydrogen refuelling infrastructure providers;

  • universities and research organisations with expertise in hydrogen, energy systems, LCA, TCO and safety;

  • digital/fleet optimisation and telematics partners;

  • additional European freight operators for replication and cross-border demonstration.

The concept remains open to technical refinement together with the selected consortium, particularly regarding the vehicle architecture, hydrogen supply and refuelling solution, demonstration design and required TRL advancement.
