Seeking Partners for a CETP CM-07 Proposal on Reuse of O&G Wells for Geothermal Application
About
TNO is building a consortium for a CETP CM-07 to address the role of reusing oil and gas wells in accelerating geothermal heating and cooling deployment. The project will develop and validate integrated methodologies and decision-support approaches that help stakeholders evaluate, compare and prioritize development pathways under technical, economic, regulatory and environmental uncertainty. The work will contribute to faster, lower-risk deployment of climate-neutral heating and cooling solutions while supporting more sustainable use of existing subsurface assets.
While primarily aiming for CM-07, we are open to consider other suitable modules for proposal application. We are also interested in developing a project consortium for upcoming Horizon Europe geothermal call.
We are looking for partners with expertise in:
-
Well engineering, well reuse, well integrity, drilling and completion
-
Geothermal system design (open vs close loop systems) for heating and cooling
-
Reservoir characterization and subsurface modelling
-
Techno-economic assessment
-
Environmental assessment and LCA
-
Project financing, investment, insurance, guarantee schemes and de-risking mechanisms
-
Regulatory, permitting and liability frameworks
-
Spatial planning and GIS
-
Development of digital tools and platforms
-
Development of integrated decision-support methodologies
-
Develpment of multi-criteria and risk-based models
-
Social sciences and stakeholder engagement
-
Demonstration and validation projects
What we at TNO bring:
-
Consortium development and project coordination
-
Geothermal well technology expertise, well engineering and drilling
-
Expertise in well repurposing and well integrity assessments
-
Access to our Well Technology Centre, a testing facility for testing and validation materials, tools and equipment
-
Development of an integrated decision-support framework and digital solutions
-
Access to subsurface data and a validation environment at our WTC
