Bandırma Municipality Circular Waste Management Projects

Bandırma Municipality (Türkiye) is looking to join European consortia preparing proposals under relevant EU funding programmes (e.g., Horizon Europe, LIFE, Interreg) related to circular economy, waste management, and waste-to-energy solutions.

Bandırma is a strategic port and industrial city located in the South Marmara region of Türkiye. The municipality is actively working on climate and sustainability initiatives, including renewable energy development, waste management improvements, and participation in international cooperation projects.

The municipality is particularly interested in innovative integrated waste management systems that combine:

• advanced recycling technologies,

• recovery of raw materials,

• and energy production from non-recyclable waste fractions (e.g., gasification, pyrolysis, or other waste-to-energy solutions).

Bandırma Municipality can contribute to project consortia primarily as a pilot and demonstration area, providing:

• a real urban environment for testing innovative waste treatment solutions,

• access to municipal waste management stakeholders,

• support for local implementation and validation activities,

• data collection and monitoring during pilot phases,

• citizen engagement and dissemination at local level.

Due to the nature of municipal capacities, Bandırma’s role would mainly focus on demonstration, validation, stakeholder engagement, and replication potential, rather than technology development.
