Rotary Geothermal Energy Converter (RGEC)

Reinaldo Ramirez

Energy Technology and Operations Director at RamRei Energy

About

The Rotary Geothermal Energy Converter (RGEC) is an innovative rotary positive‑displacement expander based on Wankel‑type kinematics, designed to convert geothermal steam or ORC working fluids into mechanical and electrical power with high efficiency, compactness, and low manufacturing cost.

The technology targets low‑enthalpy geothermal resources, marginal wells, micro‑geothermal systems (1–50 kW), and industrial waste‑heat recovery, where conventional turbines are either too expensive, too complex, or inefficient.

The project aims to advance the RGEC from TRL 1–2 to TRL 4–5, including thermodynamic modelling, CFD simulation, prototype development, and validation with compressed air and steam/ORC fluids.
