About

CREED Hydrogen Skills & Innovation Centre

The CREED Hydrogen Skills & Innovation Centre is a flagship green energy project, set to be completed in early 2026, driven by the burgeoning wind power sectors development in Scotland's Western Isles. The facility will address growing local demand for hydrogen and oxygen while providing commercial supply, training, and innovation opportunities.

Green Hydrogen & Oxygen Production: PlusZero are deploying a range of electrolysers at the CREED facility and will deliver commercial-scale hydrogen production of 150 kg H₂/day to supply dual-fuel refuse vehicles, fuel cell cars, off-road machinery, and gensets. Oxygen will be supplied to local fish farms, fabrication yards, and hospitals.

Scale Up: Demand is already outstripping supply from the site, driven in part by and existing customer's (Balfour Beatty) - pending construction of a gigawatt scale interconnector. We are looking for technology partners to support this scale up.

CREED is a platform for innovation and collaboration, offering opportunities for technology partners in:

  • Advanced hydrogen production technologies

  • Storage, compression, and distribution solutions

  • Hydrogen application prototyping and field testing

  • Use-case development across industrial and mobility sectors

As operations scale to meet growing demand, CREED will expand partnerships to deliver solutions across the hydrogen value chain.

The CREED Centre aims to position the Western Isles as a hub for green hydrogen innovation, connecting technology developers, industry partners, and local stakeholders to accelerate sustainable energy solutions, commercial opportunities, and skills development across the region
