About
jetzt gfallts da auhc oder: The Research Center for Pharmaceutical Engineering (RCPE) has extensive experience in designing, implementing, and demonstrating innovative use cases at the interface of industrial practice and academic research. We act as a neutral, application-oriented research partner for the development and demonstration of digital tools, AI-based methods, and advanced material solutions in pharmaceutical engineering.
A core strength of RCPE lies in simulation and modeling. We develop and apply mechanistic, data-driven, and hybrid models across multiple scales—from particle and formulation behavior to unit operations and full production lines. This includes process modeling, population balance models, and system-level simulations to predict performance, identify critical process parameters, and support Quality by Design (QbD). These models form the basis for digital twins, virtual process design, and model-predictive control strategies in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Our expertise includes the integration of AI algorithms and virtual environments - such as digital twins - to model, optimize, and control complex pharmaceutical processes. These approaches are routinely applied in safety-critical settings, including laboratories working with hazardous or highly potent substances, where robust sensor infrastructures and strict regulatory requirements are essential.
RCPE operates state-of-the-art pilot plant facilities that enable the demonstration of complete end-to-end production routes - from continuous API synthesis and advanced formulation to next-generation manufacturing concepts. Within these environments, we implement and validate digital manufacturing tools, including process control systems, Process Analytical Technology (PAT), sensor-based monitoring, and data-driven decision support for real-time process optimization and quality assurance.
As a non-profit research organization, RCPE serves as an independent link between science and industry, fostering technology transfer and accelerating the adoption of digital and AI-enabled solutions in pharmaceutical manufacturing. Our mission is to make emerging key technologies tangible, reduce implementation risks, and support the sustainable transformation of pharmaceutical production systems.
