Korean Associated Partner Seeking Horizon Europe Consortium (Energy & Materials); Looking for a coordinator or a partnership

Professor at Jeju National University

Jeju, South Korea

About

My name is Prof. Se-Hun Kim, a faculty member at Jeju National University (Republic of Korea), working in the field of advanced energy materials, 2D materials, and quantum materials.

With South Korea’s official association to Horizon Europe in 2025, Korean institutions are now eligible to fully participate in collaborative projects under Pillar II. In this context, I am actively seeking opportunities to join Horizon Europe consortia as a scientific partner, particularly in areas aligned with:

Renewable hydrogen and energy conversion technologies

Advanced functional materials and 2D/vdW heterostructures

Photocatalysis and CO₂ reduction systems

Quantum and topological materials for next-generation devices

My research strongly aligns with EU priorities in renewable hydrogen, photocatalytic water splitting, and carbon-neutral energy systems. My work bridges fundamental materials design with industrial applications, including semiconductor-relevant materials and scalable energy devices. My expertise in quantum and topological materials can contribute to next-generation computing and sensing technologies.

My research integrates first-principles simulations (DFT) with experimental innovation materials design, focusing on:

MXene-based heterostructures for photocatalytic hydrogen production

Interface charge transfer and band engineering in 2D materials

Thermoelectric materials with enhanced figure of merit (zT)

Topological and quantum materials (e.g., nonlinear Hall effect systems)

These works are closely aligned with current Horizon Europe priorities in Cluster 4 (Materials & Digital) and Cluster 5 (Energy & Climate).

HORIZON-CL4-2027-01-MAT-PROD-06

HORIZON-CL5-2027-04-Two-Stage-D2-07

HORIZON-CL5-2027-07-D3-16

I can contribute as a materials and modeling expert, particularly in:

DFT-based materials design and performance prediction

Photocatalyst and energy material development

Interface physics and charge transport mechanisms

Bridging theory-driven design with experimental validation

Our laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art computing infrastructure, including an impedance analyser, an ellipsometer, continuous high-resolution conductivity analyser capable of operating from low to high temperatures and maintains active international collaborations, enabling efficient integration into EU consortia.

I am particularly interested in contributing to calls such as:

Renewable hydrogen production technologies (CL5)

Advanced materials for electrolysers and energy systems (CL5)

Next-generation functional materials (CL4)

I would greatly appreciate your support in:

Identifying relevant Horizon Europe consortia

Connecting with coordinators seeking materials/energy experts

Advising on strategic positioning within proposals

In particular, I am interested in the following calls under the Horizon Europe programme, so please take note.

I would be happy to share further information, including my CV, selected publications, and project ideas.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to potential collaboration opportunities.

Warm regards,
