Inclusive & Accessible Public Transport for All (Part I)

Location: Thessaloniki Concert Hall, M2 Building, Anagnostirio Room (Parallel Room)Track:Panel Discussion

What changes in the passenger journey when cities and operators design public transport around the people most often left out?

Inclusion is ultimately experienced journey by journey. A public transport system may look good in policy terms but still fail if people cannot understand the interchange, afford the trip, trust the service, receive assistance, board confidently, feel safe, or report barriers that are then acted upon. This part therefore moves from the enabling framework to the operational and passenger-facing layer: services, digital support, physical wayfinding, operator processes and user feedback loops.

The discussion should focus on deployment rather than concepts. Speakers should be asked to explain what was implemented, which users were involved, what changed in uptake or satisfaction, how the operator or city adapted operations, what partnerships were needed, and what evidence is robust enough for another city to learn from. The strongest value for participants will come from comparing different points in the same journey chain: targeted mobility services, accessible assistance, multimodal hub navigation and user-generated accessibility data.

The outcome should be a “whole journey replication canvas” for cities and operators: target group, barrier, measure, partners, operational requirement, staff or training need, data/KPI, evidence of impact, and replication condition.
