The CIVITAS Forum 2026!
The CIVITAS Forum is back! The CIVITAS Forum makes its return with a dynamic three-day conference, serving as the flagship event of the CIVITAS Initiative. Since its creation in 2003, the CIVITAS Forum has become an essential platform for participants to learn from leaders and experts of sustainable and smart mobility. It also promotes the sharing of ideas and helps build relationships among important players involved in transforming urban mobility across Europe.
The CIVITAS Forum 2026 will take place in the coastal city of Thessaloniki, Greece, from 15-17 September 2026. The theme for this year's forum, "Roots & Routes: Moving Forward to Competitive, Connected and Resilient Urban Mobility!", will focus on how cities can blend their historical foundations with innovative approaches to mobility. The forum will explore strategies for creating sustainable, competitive, and adaptable transport systems that connect various modes of transport, from walking and cycling to shared mobility and electric vehicles. Discussions will highlight the role of technology, community engagement, and resilience in shaping cities that are ready for the future while meeting the needs of all residents today.
This is an unmissable opportunity to exchange ideas, share best practices, and connect with key players transforming urban mobility. Whether you’re a city representative, a mobility practitioner, or an enthusiast, the CIVITAS Forum 2026 is the perfect platform to engage in meaningful discussions and discover the latest innovations in urban transport.
A welcome message from the Mayor of Thessaloniki
As the Mayor of Thessaloniki, it is my great pleasure and privilege to welcome you to our vibrant city for the CIVITAS Forum 2026!
Thessaloniki is a city where history runs deep—a historic crossroads of cultures and civilisations for over two millennia.
As we face the pressing challenges of the climate crisis, Thessaloniki is actively transforming its urban landscape. Our administration is committed to an ambitious, green, and digital transition. We envision a more sustainable, resilient, and accessible city that elevates the quality of life for all residents, workers, and visitors alike.
Urban mobility is at the very heart of this transformation. The launch of our new Metro system, the rapid electrification and modernisation of our public bus fleet, the expansion of smart traffic management, and our ongoing efforts to reclaim public space through extensive pedestrian and waterfront rejuvenations are reshaping how people move.
I encourage you to explore Thessaloniki, experience our famous hospitality, and witness our urban evolution first-hand. I am confident that the insights gained here will leave a lasting legacy for all cities, reinforcing our shared commitment to building a greener, smarter, and more connected urban future.
Welcome to Thessaloniki!
Stelios Angeloudis
Mayor of Thessaloniki
