Powering the Transition: Deploying Investable Energy-Mobility Roadmaps for Cities

Location: Thessaloniki Concert Hall, M2 Building, Anagnostirio Room (Parallel Room)Track:Panel Discussion
  • Resilience

Decarbonising urban mobility is no longer only a transport challenge; it is also an energy-security, competitiveness and delivery challenge. In the spirit of AccelerateEU, this session will explore how cities can build investable roadmaps that align fleet transition plans with grid capacity, charging infrastructure, financing and operational readiness - while ensuring that electrification supports, rather than crowds out, active mobility, public space quality and multimodal integration.

Bringing together city, public transport, active mobility, financing, energy systems, and implementation perspectives, the session will focus on the practical conditions for deployment: how to plan charging for buses, taxis, shared fleets, municipal fleets and urban logistics; how to work effectively with distribution system operators, utilities and charging providers; how to make better use of existing capacity through smart charging, load management, flexibility and demand-side management; and how to avoid infrastructure bottlenecks that slow down the transition from pilots to scale.

The discussion will connect local implementation with EU policy and funding priorities, including the need for integrated planning, interoperable and smart charging, investor confidence and stronger coordination between mobility and energy actors. The session aims to identify replicable approaches that help cities build credible, bankable roadmaps and deliver zero-emission urban mobility faster, while ensuring that electrification complements public transport, active mobility and wider sustainable urban mobility objectives.
