European, National and Local Cooperation for the Next Generation of SUMPs

This session will focus on the role of National SUMP Contact Points (NSCPs) and their coordination work via SUMP Support Programmes (NSSPs) to support urban nodes adopting their Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs).

It will present the work of the NSCP Coordination Platform, key activities and strategic role in supporting the implementation of evolving EU mobility policies. Building on this, the session will explore how national, regional and local authorities are cooperating in practice to adapt existing SUMPs and reinforce the links with long-distance TEN-T mobility flows and infrastructure. Particular attention will be given to the governance and coordination challenges of planning beyond administrative boundaries.

The session will aim to:

• Present the role of NSCPs and NSSPs as new frameworks for enhanced national coordination on SUMPs;

• Showcase how national, regional and local authorities are cooperating in practice to adapt SUMPs, equivalent plans and related guidance frameworks;

• Discuss the implementation of SUMPs at the functional city level, including governance and coordination challenges beyond administrative boundaries;

• Promote peer learning and exchange between European, national, regional and local stakeholders on integrated and coordinated mobility planning.
