Scaling Urban Mobility Innovation: From Pilot Projects to City Deployment

Innovative urban mobility solutions are increasingly demonstrating their potential to make transport systems safer, more accessible, efficient and sustainable. As cities look to move beyond pilots and towards wider deployment, the focus is shifting to how successful innovations can be scaled, replicated and embedded into everyday urban mobility. 

Bringing together representatives from CINEA, the European Innovation Council (EIC), EIT Urban Mobility, the public transport authority AtB, and the Sofia Urban Mobility Centre (City of Sofia), this session will explore how innovation support, city partnerships and collaboration between public authorities and innovators are creating stronger pathways from demonstration to large-scale implementation. Speakers will share practical experiences of how cities and innovators are working together to accelerate deployment, foster innovation procurement and unlock new opportunities for market uptake. 

The discussion will examine the practical conditions that enable successful deployment across multiple cities, including integration with public transport and public space management, the use of living labs and regulatory sandboxes to test and refine solutions, data sharing and procurement readiness. Particular attention will be given to generating credible evidence of impact on safety, accessibility, emissions reduction and overall system efficiency, while balancing public value with investment and commercial considerations. 

By showcasing practical experiences, successful partnerships and transferable lessons, the session aims to identify effective approaches for accelerating the deployment of innovative urban mobility solutions and supporting cities in delivering more sustainable, inclusive and resilient transport systems.
