Transforming Public Transport Systems: Innovation, Markets & Partnerships
- Competitiveness
Public transport is evolving beyond traditional networks to become the backbone of integrated, user-centred urban mobility systems. As cities respond to changing travel patterns, climate objectives and growing expectations for seamless mobility, the challenge is no longer simply introducing innovation, but embedding it into everyday public transport services through effective governance, strong partnerships and sustainable business models.
This session will explore how public authorities, transport operators, mobility providers and technology partners are working together to modernise public transport through practical implementation. Topics will include the integration of demand-responsive and shared mobility services, digital tools, data-sharing, and the governance and contractual frameworks needed to support collaboration across the mobility ecosystem.
Drawing on implementation experiences from a diverse range of European contexts, from metropolitan areas and medium-sized cities to island settings, the discussion will focus on the lessons that matter most for replication and long-term deployment.
