Politicians Exchange Forum (PEF)
Applications available from 1 Aug 2026, 00:00 to 31 Aug 2026, 00:00
The PEF will bring together city leaders, the European Commission, and key stakeholders to discuss under the theme The EU Sustainable Tourism Strategy: Mobility and Tourism at a Crossroads. The forthcoming EU Sustainable Tourism Strategy comes at a moment when European destinations are increasingly aware that the future of tourism is inseparable from the future of mobility. As travel patterns evolve and visitor numbers fluctuate across seasons and geographies, the ability of cities and regions to offer sustainable, reliable and accessible transport options is becoming a decisive factor in shaping how tourism develops in the years ahead. The discussion will explore how cities can better manage these dynamics by improving multimodal and cross-border connectivity, promoting low- and zero-emission transport options, and managing peak visitor flows, while safeguarding accessibility, system efficiency and residents’ quality of life. It will also address governance and coordination across transport and tourism actors, and alignment with Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans. Short interventions from cities and stakeholders from the tourism and mobility sectors will feed into an interactive discussion on key challenges, opportunities, and supporting measures. The PEF will conclude with key takeaways and a site visit showcasing Thessaloniki’s metro system and its integration with cultural heritage areas.
This event has reached full capacity.
