IIS WASABI 2.0 is a Walloon (southern Belgium) innovation network bringing together 79 stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, including R&D organisations, training and education providers, companies, cities and territorial developers. The network focuses on stimulating the fruit and vegetable agri-food sector in Wallonia through an integrated approach covering production, processing and distribution.
WASABI 2.0 promotes diversified, small-scale, sustainable, circular and resilient agri-food systems, integrating horticulture, organic waste and plant by-products, as well as low feed-conversion animal production systems (fish, insects, poultry). A strong emphasis is placed on local production, short supply chains and circular bio-based valorisation, contributing to agroecological transition, resource efficiency and food system resilience.
The objective of IIS WASABI 2.0 is to support its partners in developing and scaling up European collaborations. The consortium is already actively involved in several European and international projects, including: Horizon Europe projects, EU–China Joint Action, CORNET project , Interreg NWE project, Eurostars project, Interreg NWE proposal.
These projects address key topics such as sustainable urban and peri-urban agriculture, valorisation of organic waste and plant by-products, and sustainable agri-food systems.
IIS WASABI 2.0 is coordinated by the University of Liège (ULiège), a leading Belgian university recognised for its high-level research, innovation capacity and strong engagement in international, interdisciplinary and multi-actor collaborations with academic, industrial and public partners.
