CL6-2026-BIODIV-05 – Integrated scenarios for nature-positive and climate-resilient territories

Executive Secretary at Intermunicipal Community of Coimbra Region

Coimbra Region, Portugal

About

The Intermunicipal Community of Coimbra Region (CIM-RC) is a public authority representing 19 municipalities, with extensive experience in territorial governance, environmental planning and EU-funded project implementation. CIM-RC acts as an Intermediate Body of the “Centro 2030” Programme and is responsible for managing and implementing integrated territorial investments aligned with sustainability, climate adaptation and biodiversity objectives.

CIM-RC is interested in joining or further developing a consortium under the Horizon Europe topic HORIZON-CL6-2026-01-BIODIV-05, focusing on integrated scenarios and predictive models for a nature-positive society. The region provides strong added value as a real-world territorial laboratory for testing and validating scenario-based modelling approaches, particularly in the context of land use change, biodiversity pressures, water systems and climate adaptation.

The proposal will build on CIM-RC’s Integrated Territorial Development Strategy (EIDT 2021–2027), which prioritises biodiversity protection, climate resilience and sustainable resource management. CIM-RC can contribute with governance expertise, access to long-term territorial datasets, and coordination capacity across municipalities.

The region is already engaged in biodiversity and ecosystem-related initiatives such as RESIST (Horizon Europe), transFORM (funded by the EU under the NextGeneration EU program and through the RRP), and LIFE4LAMPREY (as Associated Region in the DALIA project, Horizon Europe), providing relevant experience in ecosystem restoration, freshwater biodiversity and nature-based solutions.

CIM-RC is particularly interested in contributing to:

  • co-design of integrated socio-ecological scenarios at regional scale;

  • policy translation of modelling outputs into territorial planning and climate adaptation strategies;

  • stakeholder engagement involving municipalities, civil society and economic sectors.

We are looking for research institutions, modelling experts, environmental agencies, and technology providers with expertise in ecosystem modelling, scenario development, remote sensing, and socio-economic impact assessment. CIM-RC is open to joining an existing consortium or contributing to the coordination of a proposal, depending on consortium structure.
