About

BETA Technological Center (https://betatechcenter.com/) is seeking to join a consortium preparing a proposal for HORIZON-CL6-2026-01-CIRCBIO-11: Harnessing the unique properties of marine organisms to deliver sustainable blue bio-based products. BETA brings a multidisciplinary and systems-based approach to the development of blue bio-based solutions, integrating marine ecology, bioresource valorisation, environmental technologies and sustainability assessment. BETA contributes expertise in the characterisation, sustainable use and valorisation of marine bioresources, including algae, marine microorganisms and other aquatic biological resources. The centre supports the development of bio-based products derived from marine organisms through environmentally responsible processing pathways, focusing on resource efficiency, reduced environmental pressures and circular use of marine biomass and by-products. Complementing technological and bioresource expertise, BETA provides sustainability, circularity and impact assessment across the full life cycle of blue bio-based products. This includes environmental performance evaluation, ecosystem impact analysis, and assessment of economic viability and scalability, ensuring that innovations are aligned with EU blue economy, biodiversity and zero-pollution objectives. BETA also contributes to system integration and governance aspects of the blue bioeconomy, supporting alignment with marine protection frameworks, regulatory requirements and stakeholder expectations. This ensures that the development of blue bio-based products balances innovation with the conservation of marine ecosystems and long-term resource sustainability. Within a consortium, BETA can contribute to: (i) sustainable sourcing and valorisation of marine bioresources; (ii) development and assessment of blue bio-based products and processes; (iii) life-cycle, circularity and ecosystem impact assessment; and (iv) system-level analysis supporting scale-up and responsible market uptake. This positions BETA as a strong partner for projects advancing innovative, sustainable and biodiversity-safe blue bioeconomy solutions.

Projects related to this area of expertise include: Sea2Land, BioreFISH, ALGAE-STATE MITIGA-FERT, PROSPER.
