valorising protein crops’ by-products, explore machinery
Director of International collaboration & projects at VALORIAL
Rennes, France
About
VALORIAL had deep knowledge and network on farmers valorisation pathways. We are at EU level partner in 2 Bioeconomy projects ThERBN (CSA) where we share and showcase tools for the farmers to better perform as well as VALORANT (Interreg A) where a tool to guide farmers in there choice of valorisation is developped.
Thematic European Rural Bioeconomy Network (thERBN) aims to promote the sharing of concrete, circular bioeconomy solutions among farmers and foresters, based on the creation of a European network.
Ambitions
-
Identify urgent needs in terms of co-product valorisation
-
Bring together solutions that have already been tested in the field, innovations from Operational Groups and the results of national and European projects.
-
Produce practical content (technical data sheets, videos, podcasts, etc.) distributed via the EU-Farmbook and thERBN platforms.
-
Connect researchers, advisers and AKIS system stakeholders to support more sustainable agricultural and rural models.
Timetable in France
-
2025 – Search for solutions for the recovery of residues from fruit and vegetable crops, vine stocks and straw. Selection of the two most innovative solutions, production of content and organisation of two demonstration days.
-
2026 – Search for solutions for the recovery of livestock residues: slurry and sheep's wool. Selection of the most innovative solutions, content production and organisation of two demonstration days.
-
2027 – Search for solutions to recycle residues from forestry: hedge trimmings. Selection of the most innovative solutions, content production and organisation of two demonstration days.
VALORANT - ValorisationAgriculturaLResidues -Optimisationand Recovery Advanced Network Tool
to improve processes for a more efficient recovery of bioactive ingredients from horticultural residues typical of NWE territories, arising from surpluses or crop losses
Ambitions
-
Joint development of place-based strategies to recover polyphenols, considering (physico-)biochemical and nutritional properties of residues, valorisationand economic and sustainability assessment
-
Implementation of pilot actions using a valorization cascade approach to assess strategies and processes for producing polyphenols as value-added products and by-products from horticultural residues.
-
Development and implementation of a training scheme and a digital tool targeting the value chain (farmers, processing industries, end-user companies), policymakers and consumers.
