HORIZON-CL6-2026-02-FARM2FORK-03-Boosting the competitiveness of protein crops in Europe

Assoc.Prof. at RECEP IRFAN NAZLI

ADANA, Türkiye

About

Our research group offers strong expertise in protein crop production for feed and food systems, with a particular focus on legume forage crops and legume–grass mixtures that enhance protein yield, soil fertility and farm resilience under Mediterranean and semi-arid conditions.

We manage diverse germplasm resources of key protein crops, including cluster bean (guar), clover species and soybean, suitable for both feed and food uses. Our experience includes field-based evaluation of yield, protein content, resource-use efficiency and adaptability to improve farmer profitability and reduce dependency on imported protein feeds.

We can contribute to this call through:

-          Field testing and validation of protein crops and legume–grass systems across contrasting environments
- Assessment of protein yield, forage quality and by-product valorisation for feed and circular bioeconomy pathways

-          Integration of protein crops into diversified farming systems to improve farmer profitability, agrobiodiversity and soil fertility

-          Valorisation of protein crop by-products (e.g. guar meal, forage residues) within circular bioeconomy models

-          Farmer-oriented demonstrations and dissemination, including practical guidelines for adoption at farm level

We seek collaboration as a research partner to provide experimental data, germplasm-based innovations and practice-oriented solutions that strengthen European plant protein autonomy and competitive, resilient farming systems.
