About

iBB can contribute with:

  1. Microbial fingerprinting and functional metagenomic profiling to trace biological pollutants and track microbial community responses to contaminants like food-derived chemicals, packaging leachates, and industrial effluents.

  2. Advanced bioprocesses for wastewater treatment, including microbial and microalgae-bacteria consortia.

  3. The experience with advanced biological phosphorus removal and textile dye bioconversion is transferable to food industry effluents, many of which contain complex organic loads, dyes, preservatives, and nutrients.

  4. Emerging interest in the role of viromes (phages) offering a new angle to explore how microbial robustness can be enhanced or disrupted by phage dynamics, especially in fermentation processes and waste treatment plants exposed to industrial pollutants.
