Digestate recovery with high quality compost before application to soil
About
In preliminary trials with regenerative farmer who also runs a biogas station we validated that liquid fraction of digestate can be biologically enhanced with high quality compost biology prior to application to soil (TRL 3), but further experimentation is needed to fine-tune operational parameters (TRL 4–5) to subsequently plant economic benefits at scale (TRL 7).
This topic is relevant because digestate currently has practically zero value—it is considered waste, and biogas plants often have to persuade farmers to work with digestate.
