HORIZON-CL6-2025-01-CIRCBIO-04: Development and testing of Extended Producer Responsibility schemes (EPR) within the priority CEAP value chains
Senior Research Adviser at Consumption Research Norway (SIFO), Oslo Metropolitan University
Oslo, Norway
About
SIFO’s textile researchers have investigated how product design, quality, and consumer practices affect garment lifespans and waste generation. They also explore the role of policy, such as Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), in promoting more sustainable production and consumption. Their work includes analysis of repair and reuse systems, consumer behavior around textile care, and the feasibility of circular business models like rental and resale.
SIFO’s researchers have contributed with evidence-based policy recommendations for EPR schemes that encourage waste prevention through improved product design, longer use phases, and accessible repair and reuse options, including targeted producer responsibility as a possible alternative to EPR. Their research provides insights into the cost-benefit dynamics for both consumers and producers, including SMEs, in transitioning to a circular textile economy.
