About

Odunpazarı Municipality is a local authority located in Eskişehir, a mid-sized city in northwestern Türkiye. The district has a population of approximately 430,000 and includes both dense urban neighborhoods and rural or semi-rural areas. Odunpazarı is well known for its cultural richness, commitment to social inclusion, and its growing efforts in sustainability, environment, and community-oriented development.

The municipality provides a wide range of public services, including environmental protection, green space development, agricultural support, waste management, and rural infrastructure. Odunpazarı also implements local initiatives related to food systems, urban gardening, circular economy, and the preservation of natural and cultural resources.

Based on its existing work and institutional focus, Odunpazarı Municipality is well positioned to contribute to Horizon Europe Cluster 6 projects, particularly as a relevant and motivated partner for proposals aiming to develop and pilot Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) systems at the municipal level, promote urban food system transformation through community-based co-creation spaces, support circular bioeconomy practices in cities and regions, enhance the sustainability of local agriculture and water management in peri-urban areas, and apply digital tools and participatory processes to foster more inclusive and climate-resilient rural development.

The municipality operates relevant local infrastructure and initiatives such as the “New Variety Trial and Farmer Training Center,” which supports agricultural innovation and knowledge transfer to local producers, and the “Idle Land to Agriculture Project,” which transforms unused municipal land into productive agricultural areas. In addition, the municipality runs the “Children’s Village” project, offering hands-on agricultural education for children, and a newly established “Corn Drying Facility” that contributes to the post-harvest processing capacity of local farmers. Odunpazarı Municipality also collaborates with local universities and NGOs in fields such as food policy, youth participation, environmental education, and sustainable rural development.

Odunpazarı Municipality is open to international cooperation and is seeking to join consortia under Horizon Europe Cluster 6, particularly those that address food, bioeconomy, natural resources, agriculture, rural revitalization, and environmental sustainability. Our team is available to contribute to co-design activities, pilot implementations, public engagement, and policy transfer components of EU-funded projects.
